What do movie nights, quiz competitions, pool, darts and game nights have in common? They are all a powerful part of life in Pathway’s reintegration programme at Christchurch Men’s Prison.

“A key part of Pathway’s strategy for reintegration is creating opportunities for positive social engagement,” Reintegration Manager Anaru Baynes says.

“And even more critically, having fun is the difference between thriving and surviving. It’s about enjoying life and experiencing fun and laughter along the way.”

Tū Ora regularly participate in a wide range of social events. A recent event - Navigate’s Got Talent - is a great example of that strategy in action, giving Tū Ora the opportunity to enjoy themselves.Navigate’s Got Talent was also there to highlight that we’ve all got strengths and abilities that your community needs and can appreciate,” Anaru says.

“The key message for that event was one of the most important things when it comes to recovery, which is that we’re human beings not human doings. We all need to attach our value to who we are, not just what we do.”
