An open discussion.

We're taking our message into the community to build understanding around reintegration and breaking the cycle.

At Pathway, one of the challenges we face in our work is public awareness. While there is a general understanding that crime exists, there's far less understanding of recidivism and the intergenerational cycle of poverty, violence and crime that drives it. Additionally, people often struggle to understand what successful prison reintegration looks like, or indeed, why we should provide it.

To open the discussion on these topics, we've initiated a number of speaking engagements at local churches, young adult groups, Rotary clubs and community groups. Our team has provided several compelling talks, covering not only what we do but also why we do it. These talks also include Reintegration Navigator Matiu's raw account of lived experience, which particularly strikes a chord with audiences as it shows just how prolific and pervasive the intergenerational cycle really is.

After our most recent speaking engagement at Sumner Anglican Church, Vicar Harry Newton was pleasantly surprised at the depth with which our team communicated our mission.

"The mixture of theology, rooting the work of Pathway in Christ, and a personal testimony of how Pathway has been instrumental in changing lives was a powerful mix," Harry commented. "For churches or community groups with a social bent, Pathway will encourage your people with real examples of lives changed through Pathway's work."

Ultimately, we believe that breaking the cycle of intergenerational crime and poverty requires community buy-in. But for this to occur, people need to understand the issues at hand. These speaking engagements are one way we help build that understanding.

If your church, Rotary club or community group would like to learn more about Pathway's work and the realities of reintegration, we'd be glad to arrange a speaking engagement. Get in touch with us to discuss.
